چکیده

This paper focuses on the scheduling of trucks at a transshipment terminal with a single gate. Trucks deliver or pick up a single type of items at the gate and, therefore, increase or decrease, respectively, the inventory level. Naturally, pick up trucks can be served only if the required amount of items is available in the inventory. We consider the problem to find a schedule for trucks such that the maximum lateness among all trucks is minimized. We develop properties of optimal solutions, lower bounds, and heuristic methods in order to find upper bounds. These are incorporated in four branch and bound algorithms which are based on fixing sequences of trucks in forward or backward direction in two different types of representations. By means of a computational study we compare these approaches to each other in order to show their efficiency.

Algorithms for Minimizing Maximum Lateness with Unit Length Tasks and Resource Constraints

Blazewicz, J., W. Kubiak and S. Martello, Algorithms for minimizing maximum lateness with unit length tasks and resource constraints, Discrete Applied Mathematics 42 (1993) 1233138. The problem we consider is that of scheduling n unit length tasks on identical processors in the presence of additional scarce resources. The objective is to minimize maximum lateness. It has been known for some tim...

Minimizing the Number of Tardy Jobs in the Single Machine Scheduling Problem under Bimodal Flexible and Periodic Availability Constraints

In single machine scheduling problems with availability constraints, machines are not available for one or more periods of time. In this paper, we consider a single machine scheduling problem with flexible and periodic availability constraints. In this problem, the maximum continuous working time for each machine increases in a stepwise manner with two different values allowed. Also, the durati...

Solving Single Machine Sequencing to Minimize Maximum Lateness Problem Using Mixed Integer Programming

Despite existing various integer programming for sequencing problems, there is not enoughinformation about practical values of the models. This paper considers the problem of minimizing maximumlateness with release dates and presents four different mixed integer programming (MIP) models to solve thisproblem. These models have been formulated for the classical single machine problem, namely sequ...

A Simulation Model for Optimization of the Internal Handling Fleet Size at Shahid Rajaee Container Port Based on Performance Evaluation

The dramatic increasing of sea-freight container transportations and the developing trend for using containers in the multimodal handling systems through the sea, rail, road and land in the present market cause some challenges to the general managers of container terminals such as increasing demand, competitive situation, new investments and expansion of new activities and the need to use new m...

Minimizing Makespan with Start Time Dependent Jobs in a Two Machine Flow Shop

[if gte mso 9]> The purpose of this paper is to consider the problem of scheduling a set of start time-dependent jobs in a two-machine flow shop, in which the actual processing times of jobs increase linearly according to their starting time. The objective of this problem is to minimize the makespan. The problem is known to be NP-hardness[ah1] ; therefore, there is no polynomial-time algorithm...
